World Naked Bike Ride – Brighton 2009
Jul 23rd, 2009 by David

A bunch of Spielplatz residents and a few friends met up on The Level in Brighton for the 2009 World Naked Bike Ride.

The weather was just about perfect, hazy sunshine and warm.

A large crown of participants had assembled, plus a smaller crowd of onlookers. There was a really nice atmosphere, friendly and jovial. It did NOT feel like the peep show in London a few years back.

The ride meandered through Hove and Brighton, finishing up on the nudist beach. I declined a swim ‘cos it looked freezing cold! (I have been spoilt by the 28 Celsius heated swimming pool in Spielplatz).

A picture paints a thousand words so you can see photographs of the event here: PICTURES .

I did manage to send a few pictures back live from the event by ‘phone, but it is extreme torture using a phone on the interweb.

Same time same place next year? Definitely!

World Naked Bike Ride – Preamble
Jul 23rd, 2009 by David

Off to Brighton on Sunday 14 June to ride naked around the town. WNBR!

Now I have worked out how to do it I can post pictures from my ‘phone to the web, so if you look here or follow me on Twitter you will be able to see photographs, live as it happens!

Keep your expectations low.

More on this Sunday evening or Monday morning.

One and Other – I got a mention
Jul 23rd, 2009 by David

I got a mention on the One & Other blog. That should send the hit counter up a bit, I hope.

The great cake plan and other tweets describes the Twittter micro blog posts about One & Other.

Another post, The A-Z of plinth activities suggests that getting naked may be an option: “Get Naked – Antony Gormley will be very surprised if no-one gets their kit off”.

It’s tempting, but I don’t think I have the courage to get naked. But I will wear my Utilikilt!

If you are Twittering remember to use the hashtag #oneandother.

I am a work of art
Jul 23rd, 2009 by David

I have my 15 minutes of fame. Wednesday 15 July at 8 AM (blink, how early!) I will be on the Gormley plinth in Trafalgar Square for an hour.

Plan so far is to take the laptop and talk to folk on Skype. I should be able to do live video with the webcam. I have registered the Skype name of ‘ontheplinth’.

I did not really think I would get a place, or it would be 3AM when no one was around.

The web site for the project is here: On the Plinth.

New Government scheme
Jul 23rd, 2009 by David

Dear People of the UK,

Due to the current financial situation caused by the slowdown of the economy, your Government has decided to implement a scheme to put workers of 50 years of age or older on early retirement. This scheme will be known as RAPE (Retire Aged People Early).

Persons selected to be RAPED can apply to the government to be eligible for the SHAFT scheme (Special Help After Forced Termination).

Persons who have been RAPED and SHAFTED will be reviewed under the SCREW programme (Scheme Covering Retired Early Workers). A person may be RAPED once, SHAFTED twice and SCREWED as many times as the government deems appropriate.

Only persons who have been RAPED can get AIDS (Additional Income for Dependants & Spouse) or HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel Early Severance). Obviously, persons who have AIDS or HERPES will not be SHAFTED or SCREWED any further by the government..

Persons who are not RAPED and are staying on, will receive as much SHIT (Special High Intensity Training) as possible. The government has always prided itself in the amount of SHIT it gives out. Should you feel that you do not receive enough SHIT, please bring this to the attention of your local MP. He/she will have been trained to give you all the SHIT you can handle.

Sincerely,

Rt. Hon. Gordon Brown PM

Home from hospital
Jul 23rd, 2009 by David

Sore, tired and with a souvenir of my adventures.

The pacemaker that was inside me for the last eight years.

Slice me open!
Jul 23rd, 2009 by David

I have an appointment with the surgeon to have my pacemaker replaced.

I am being admitted into hospital 20 May, it should only be for a few days, the British National Health Service throws patients out quickly ‘cos they need the beds…

All being well you should see a new post and new tweets after the weekend, maybe sooner.

Of course if it all goes quiet…….

Mad weekend
Jul 23rd, 2009 by David

We had a few folk around this weekend to play with genealogy. A sort of LAN party but with ancestors instead of gaming!

After our guests left I totally pulled the office apart and rewired the iMac and the LAN. Tomorrow I am going to rewire the other end of the office where my Mac mini sits.

I removed shed loads of cables and USB connections that did not do anything. This cabling just grows like Topsy, it’s nice to have everything neat and tidy and labelled!

I also removed a ton of grot and cat hair from behind the equipment.

YAY for a neat office. It should last about a week. Maybe two.

Delivery Service
Jul 23rd, 2009 by David

The delivery of the dessert went well, we may branch out into blackberry and apple in the Autumn.

Also considering main courses as well: squirrel ragout and muncjack stew.

I have applied for my 60 minutes of fame on the 4th plinth in Trafalgar Square. Look here at the website.

I have also registered the Skype name of ‘On the plinth’ so if I get my 60 minutes of fame you will be able to call me on Skype.

Knowing my luck I will get a 3AM slot on a wet Wednesday morning!
